Joining and Training

The club is divided into four training squads. As a competitive club, hard work and commitment are the key to development through the squads.

The Welcome Handbook provides all the basic information about the Club for swimmers and parents.

Club night is on Wednesday evening and all squads will swim during the club night. Out with club night, sessions are by invitation. If a swimmer is invited to a session, they are expected, as part of the squad progression structure, to attend. The decision on who trains on an invitational sessions is the decision of the head coach, whose decision is final.

C Squad

C squad is our entry level squad to the club and is skill based and technical. The Club will expect swimmers to have regular attendance, be committed to learning, and develop a good attitude.

To move up to B squad your coach will assess swimmers on all of the above and see that strokes are technically legal and that you have passed the criteria required that you are willing to start to compete at club level and you are thinking about competing in the local area.

Training sessions:

Wednesday night:   6.15pm – 7.15pm

Friday night:          6.30pm – 7.30pm

Monday night:        6.15pm – 8pm Culloden pool (by invitation only)

B Squad

Training will be at higher level than C Squad you will start to understand terminology used in swimming, use more advanced training methods and will do more distance in training. Further you will be expected to adopt a good work ethos. Self-discipline is required from the swimmer to be able to put the dedication in to your sport if you desire to fulfil your potential.

Swimmers in this group will start to work towards DRP (District Regional Squad times) these times will be put forward and looked at by Scottish swimming who make a selection every year from hundreds of other swimmers, who can then be put forward for extra training at  North District Level.

Competition is a measure of improvement. Swimmers will be expected to travel to meets away from home, and be competing regularly.

Swimmers Programme will be based on 200m I.M programme along with all individual strokes, and aiming for 200m times by this stage.

Transfer to A Squad will depend on attendance levels, commitment to swimming, being mentally ready to take the next step to a higher standard. You should also be aiming at 10%-15% National times as in your agreement.

Some swimmers may be offered a place in a junior masters/training squad at this time if they are unable to compete on a regular basis.

Training sessions:

Wednesday night:   land training 6pm-7pm

Wednesday night:   7.15pm – 8.45pm

Friday night:          5pm – 6.30pm

Sunday morning:    9am – 10am (by invitation only)

A Squad

Swimmers should be totally committed to their sport, be ready to accept tougher challenges. Every swimmer within the squad will be working towards achieving North District Squad times and progressing to National times and Highland Swim Team Times.

You will also be expected to make use of all available pool sessions. Swimmers will be expected to compete in at least 8-12 competitions per year. Swimmers need to take ownership and responsibility for their training and how they approach it in the water; their behaviour in the pool should be exemplary. Any squad swimmer should all have the same mind set and be ready to support each other and push each other on in training. Squad swimmers should all be Team Players. Swimmers Programme will be I.M Technique based and be an all-round swimmer capable of all events.

In A squad you should understand what team effort is and understand what your fellow swimmers need from you as well as what you need from them. Next stage for A Squad swimmers would be to be invited to swim in HST(Highland Swim Team) where dedication commitment and a change in lifestyle begins for those that really  desire to be the best. You will have to achieve within 5% of National Times to enter, one National time is required at the moment but this could change. Times are updated every year and standards will rise every year making the swimmer have to work harder each year to reach their age group level times needed.

Friday night            7.30pm – 9.15pm

Some swimmers may be offered a place in our fitness training squad at this time if they are unable to compete on a regular basis.

Fitness Squad

If after having been in your Squad and your coaches feels that you are not at the level required to move to a higher level of training, through lack of attendance, commitment or lack of desire or ability, we will direct you down another pathway To fitness squad where you can still train, but at a level which suits your ability and commitment level. Fitness swimmers are still expected to enter our annual Club Championships and Club Graded Meet if their times allow.
